Overview
Parent & Partner Coaching + Routines-Based Learning
Communication grows through everyday moments — during meals, play, conversations, community activities, and daily routines. Parent and partner coaching focuses on empowering the people who know and support the communicator best with practical strategies they can naturally incorporate into real-life interactions.
Through coaching, we collaborate to understand communication strengths, identify meaningful goals, and build supportive environments that encourage connection and participation. We provide individualized strategies for supporting communication, responding to communication attempts, modeling language, and creating opportunities for success across daily activities.
Routines-based learning focuses on using familiar, meaningful routines as opportunities for communication growth. Rather than practicing isolated skills, we support communication where it naturally happens — helping individuals build skills that are functional, relevant, and easier to carry over into everyday life.
Our goal is to partner with families, caregivers, and communication partners to create environments where all forms of communication are valued, supported, and understood.
What to Expect: Caregiver Coaching
Step 1: Understanding Your Goals & Communication Priorities
We begin by learning about your experiences, your child/communication partner’s strengths, and the moments where communication feels most important. Together, we identify goals that are meaningful for your family and fit naturally into everyday life.
Step 2: Observing Communication in Real Life
Caregiver coaching focuses on what happens outside of traditional therapy sessions. We explore everyday routines, interactions, and environments to better understand current communication patterns and identify opportunities for connection and growth.
Step 3: Learning Practical Communication Strategies
You’ll learn individualized strategies to support communication in ways that feel natural and sustainable. This may include modeling language, creating communication opportunities, supporting AAC use, responding to communication attempts, and adapting routines to encourage participation.
Step 4: Practicing & Problem-Solving Together
Coaching is a collaborative process. We’ll work together to try strategies, discuss what is working, troubleshoot challenges, and adjust approaches based on your family’s needs and experiences.
Step 5: Building Confidence Across Daily Routines
The goal of caregiver coaching is to help communication supports become part of everyday life. By building your confidence and understanding of how to support communication, we create more opportunities for meaningful connection throughout the day.
Caregiver coaching is not about becoming a therapist — it is about feeling empowered to recognize, support, and respond to communication in ways that honor the individual’s unique communication style.
